Habitat Highlight- March 2018

This month, Habitat Texas is proud to highlight North Collin County Habitat for Humanity.

North Collin County Habitat for Humanity has been serving their community for more than 25 years! Board President, Matt Hilton, and CEO, Celeste Cox, state the amazing accomplishments of North Collin County Habitat in 25 years, “totals about 105 New Homes constructed, 181 Critical Home Repairs, 48 International Homes built, and nearly $8 million in ReStore sales generated, building 23 homes through Net Sales. Each one is a great accomplishment. However, the heart of the matter is the 1,191 transformed lives.”

On average, North Collin County Habitat constructs 10 new homes and manages 30-40 A Brush with Kindness projects yearly.  In addition to building homes, North Collin County Habitat hosts many unique projects and programs such as a partnership with Puerto Lempira, Honduras to oversee 4 International Builds (including work with their orphanage- Send Hope) and partnerships with the local high school, Job Corps, and colleges to offer onsite training in HVAC, electrical work, painting, and construction.

Matt Hilton, Board President and Celeste Cox, CEO describe a full circle Habitat story sharing “Creasha, a Habitat homeowner of 15 years received a job promotion, and found herself relocating for career advancement. Wanting to bless another family and see them walk along a path toward financial stability and self-reliance, Creasha sold her home back to North Collin County Habitat, earning enough equity from the sale to use as a down payment on her next home. North Collin County Habitat then selected a new family to become owners of Creasha’s old home. Affordable homeownership is now in the future for another family, after working over 300 hours of sweat equity toward the home, closing and move-in dates have been set. This home was a catalyst of change for Creasha, and now a force of stability and strength for another family.”

Future plans are set in motion for North Collin County Habitat as they have a unique new project called “The Cotton Groves,” a 35 townhome subdivision in McKinney that will be built with shipping containers. Building is set to start Fall 2018 with infrastructure development and a prototype to be built at their office site May 2018.

Habitat Texas is grateful to be serving an outstanding affiliate that has built relations throughout their community!

Fun Facts! Every Tuesday morning, North Collin County leads devotionals to pray for their needs and the needs of their staff and families. Recently they have experienced two floods in two different buildings and a landslide of a retaining wall in their first subdivision.  You can find North Collin County Habitat in water boots quite often wading through their problems, even on New Year’s Eve!!
