About Course

At Habitat for Humanity, future homeowners must put in hours of “sweat equity” on the construction site, at the ReStore, or helping the affiliate. However, where does the term “sweat equity” come from? Through this course, we will define and discuss the tradition of “sweat equity”, and consider this program requirement in light of current racial equity and justice goals in our communities and nation.

What Will I Learn?

  • Review and understand the roots of sweat equity as connected to Habitat’s history.
  • Define sweat equity and how it applies to the homeowner process.
  • Consider the business, emotional, and racial justice impacts of sweat equity.
