Habitat for Humanity builds homes, communities, and hope around the globe! A major part of Habitat’s operations is Homeowner Services. Throughout this six-week program, participants will dive into the various areas of homebuyer support and post-purchase services. Hear from experts in their fields as you learn about generational poverty, conflict resolution, finance basics, housing plus, and more! Habitat Texas’ Certificate of Homeowner Services will occur over six weeks, meeting each Friday (except for Good Friday, class will occur on that Thursday) from 9 am-4 pm CST (with an hour break for lunch). The curriculum was designed by Michele Burns, with support from individual instructors. Upon successful competition, participants will earn a Certificate of Volunteer Management and 3.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Habitat for Humanity Texas.

This course will benefit individuals who want to learn about homeowner services, while developing leadership skills and techniques.

Roots of Habitat: Why is sweat equity a thing? Live Course

At Habitat for Humanity, future homeowners must put in hours of “sweat equity” on the construction site, at the ReStore, or helping the affiliate. However, where does the term “sweat equity” come from? Through this course, we will define and discuss the tradition of “sweat equity”, and consider this program requirement in light of current racial equity and justice goals in our communities and nation.

Join Mike Welch as he shares how to manage a repair programs at your affiliate. This workshop is based on examples and tools developed and used by Habitat affiliates with new or growing repair programs. Topics covered include policy and standards development, scope of work assessment, pricing and repayment examples, and health and safety regulations.
