Lone Star Academy

Commitment to continuous training and development.

The Lone Star Academy is a NEW year-round educational series that provides online courses in the seven key areas of Habitat services. These courses are broken up into seven six-week semesters. Each semester has an overarching theme that focuses on one of the key areas of service. Courses are available in both a live and on-demand format. Through this series, Habitat for Humanity Texas hopes to educate affiliates about nonprofit best practices and latest information to better serve Texans.

Like our Summer Series, you are able to purchase unlimited access to all courses for your entire affiliate or you can purchase courses individually. Check out the pricing breakdown below:

Enterprise Level: Affiliates who purchase the Enterprise Edition of the 2021 Lone Star Academy are able to participate in any and all courses (Certificate Programs excluded) for the entire year! Eligible participants included with the purchase of the Enterprise Edition are your entire affiliate: ALL board members, staff, and volunteers. There is tiered pricing for Texas affiliates dependent on size. The size breakdown for the Enterprise Edition is based on the same system as membership dues. For out of state affiliates, there is one price of $2,500.

Single Classes: Each class is $35.

Certificate Programs: For $750, an individual can enroll in one of our seven Certificate Programs, consisting of 36 hours of instruction from highly qualified educators and recognition from Habitat for Humanity Texas upon successful completion. Class size is limited to 25 participants per program. These programs are presented in partnership with Austin Community College.

Book Clubs: $40, including the book!

We are very happy to walk you through the system before the sessions begin, so you are comfortable accessing the online portal. Just email our Community Outreach Officer at sarah@habitattexas.org for assistance.

After registering for a course, make sure you are logged in to your account and then click on the course you want to complete. Once on the course homepage, select the green “Start Lesson” button, which will take you to the content portion of the course. If you are participating in a live webinar, you will find the Zoom login information and a section for course feedback. If the webinar has already occurred or you are taking a pre-recorded course, then you will see the list of lessons, in addition to course feedback.

The Lone Star Summer Series was a one-time event in place of our annual in-person conference due to COVID-19. Instead of eight weeks over the summer, Habitat Texas is NOW offering online courses throughout the entire year!

Regarding our annual Lone Star Summit, we are planning on hosting this event in 2021. Check back soon for more information on location and time!

Keep doing what you’re doing and thank you for always being my rock! The Rio Grande Habitat for Humanity staff, ReStore staff and our communities are extremely grateful for all that you do! May God continue to bless you and yours.
