Lone Star Academy

Certificate Programs

A Certificate Program is an interactive and practical program that teaches best practices relevant to today’s Habitat leaders. The curriculum is designed by Habitat for Humanity Texas, in partnership with the Center for Nonprofit Studies at Austin Community College, and offers comprehensive information for effective management and leadership in each subject area.

Become a leader in your field.

A Certificate Program will be offered each semester and consists of 36 hours of instruction from highly qualified educators. Participants will receive recognition from Habitat for Humanity Texas upon successful completion of each certificate course. Register for one Certificate Program to delve deeply into your job with your peers, or register for them all to really understand how to run a nonprofit. The year culminates in a certificate for leaders and will only be available for those who earn at least four certificates during the year and meet other application requirements. There will also be opportunity for in-person cohort meetings during our annual Lone Star Summit.

Retail Management

April 16-May 21, 2021

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are independently owned thrift stores operated by local affiliates that accept donations and sell home improvement items to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds from ReStore operations are used to help build strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter in local communities throughout Texas and around the world. Habitat for Humanity Texas is offering a six-week Certificate of Retail Management to prepare individuals to manage and operate a ReStore. This program is designed to prepare individuals working in the thrift retail industry in areas of supervision, marketing, finances, and business planning, encompassing several essential elements needed for effective management and communication. Upon successful completion, participants will earn a Certificate of Retail Management and 3.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
