Habitat Texas Partner Highighlight- March 2018

This month Habitat Texas is proud to highlight our partnership with McCoy’s Building Supply!

The Habitat vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live truly resonates with McCoy’s Building Supply. McCoy’s has a passion for people becoming homeowners and enjoys being a part of an industry where they are involved in such a significant life event for their customers. Jessica Walshak, Marketing Manager for McCoy’s states, “Our relationship with Habitat for Humanity has long been ingrained in our company at very local and personal levels with affiliates; however, we began developing a stronger partnership with Habitat for Humanity Texas when Amy Parham became Executive Director in 2012.”

McCoy’s purpose statement is to make life easier and more fulfilling for those who build. In detailing how their purpose is put into action, Jessica states “Making life easier is our operations side of the business, ensuring that we are a true partner in all of our customer’s projects and helping them to be successful. Making life more fulfilling is where our community impact comes into play. Beyond the evident industry and material overlaps between McCoy’s and Habitat, we also find a powerful commonality in our culture.” McCoy’s can best be described by the message on the cornerstone of our headquarters office – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)

Last year, McCoy’s management team had the opportunity to, in partnership with a generous donation to the Habitat for Humanity of the Rio Grande Valley, participate in volunteering for the McAllen Rotary House build. The partnership was a success and plans to repeat similar involvement are on their way for 2018!  To keep the partnerships rolling, McCoy’s Pharr Store Manager, Manny Gonzales is now serving as a Board member for Habitat Rio Grande Valley. Manny expressed that Wayne Lowry, Executive Director of Habitat Rio Grande Valley “has a lot of passion for this organization and I’m thankful for all of his recent contributions. He is a catalyst for making the Habitat brand really successful in the RGV.”

McCoy’s Building Supply has continued to sponsor Habitat Texas’s annual Lone Star Summit and has always enjoyed being a part of the summit. Jessica states, “I’ve attended for the past few years, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to spark conversations, exchange stories, and discover ways we can help be a better partner to local affiliates all across the state. Talking to and learning from the folks that really drive the mission of Habitat is a very inspirational and worthwhile experience.”

The Texas Habitat for Humanity family is truly grateful to McCoy’s Building Supply for being a supportive partner!

Fun Fact! McCoy’s enjoys honoring their employees for their dedication and service. One way they do that is to dedicate a wall at the headquarters office to list the 500 most tenured team members in their company. Their most tenured employee has 48 years, and it currently takes a minimum of 12 years of service to make it on the list.
